Fitness and nutrition were not always an important part of my life – if you had told me when I was growing up that I would become a personal trainer and nutrition coach, I would’ve thought you were crazy.
I started riding horses when I was 6 years old but that was the extent of my physical activity. Even though I was riding a lot, I was not otherwise a particularly active person and had no idea how to improve my nutrition habits.
As a teenager I began to feel not only uncomfortable with my body but with the disconnect between the healthy and fit person I wanted to be and the lifestyle choices I was making at the time. It wasn't until my college years that (through much trial and error) I was able to bridge that gap and slowly became more active: starting with walking and jogging until I could run a few miles, working with a personal trainer to get stronger, and taking classes on personal health and fitness.
After graduating with a degree in Sport Management, my growing interest in all things health and wellness led me to the National Personal Training Institute, where I completed my personal training certification in 2011. As I became increasingly intrigued by the role nutrition plays in helping clients meet their health and wellness goals, I added my Precision Nutrition coaching certification in 2017 and completed my Level 2 Master Class certification in the fall of 2020.
I have also faced my own health challenges: for many years I have dealt with chronic fatigue, brain fog, thyroid disorder, and disrupted hormones. Through the process of working with doctors, naturopaths, chiropractors, and alternative medicine specialists, I have developed a greater understanding of and appreciation for the complexity and interconnectedness of the mind and body, and the powerful healing forces of food, movement, and daily self-care routines. Experimenting with changes to my nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle choices is an ongoing journey that has shaped not only how I think about health and wellness but also how I coach others so they are able to thrive.
